We are Two Parishes - One Catholic Community
Immaculate Conception, Roslyn, WA and Saint John the Baptist, Cle Elum, WA
Over two years ago, Father Higuera inquired to the Pastoral Council, about the pastoral plan of St. John the Baptist parish. A pastoral plan includes ministries… (ministries are for the community and by the community), staff involvement and facilities.
As you very well know our area is changing and is growing in population, therefore, our parish needs to prepare in order to be able to give a pastoral response to our growing community in the area. Since then, the pastoral council has been focused and working to help gather information to answer this question. It was necessary to ask the Diocese for their assistance and guidance on pastoral policies and procedures on legal matters.
For these reasons, the Pastoral Council along with Father Higuera, has been actively involved in conducting a needs analysis. Our needs analysis has been presented to the bishop, the Most Rev Joseph Tyson-Bishop of Yakima and we have received his approval to continue our analysis research.
Upon completion of the assessment, it will be used by Father Higuera, the Pastoral Council and various committees to determine the future and feasibility of remodeling the existing or construction of a new church and facilities. A final detailed report sharing the outcome will be submitted to you, our parishioners and the Diocese.
We would like to invite you and all visitors to participate in this assessment of the needs for our parish community. We do not know where this will lead us, but it is important to our parish, Pastor and our Bishop that we proceed with our analysis. Please click on the link below and download and print the Survey. Please complete the Outreach Survey and mail it to P.O. What does synod mean? An assembly of bishops in the Roman Catholic Church
• Focusing on the Word of God and solemn enthronement.
• Invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead our diocesan phase.
• To entrust the Synodal process to God through the intercession of Mary, Queen and Mother.
• To initiate the beginning of our diocesan process in union with all local churches in the world.
• To gather representatives of the people of God in the spirit of Communion.
• To inspire participation in this first phase of the Synodal process.
• To be sent out on the pilgrim path of our journey as a missionary Church.
Below are links to Preparatory Documents which gives an overview of the theme of the Synod, "For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission."

Then select the Official Handbook for Listening and Discernment in Local Churches PDF in the language you wish to preview in.
The handbook includes prayers, a description of synodality, the objectives of the synodal process, and the main questions to which the local Catholic communities are asked to give feedback. It underlines that diocese should focus on “maximum inclusion and participation” among baptized Catholics in the diocesan synod process.
